The Critical Care Medicine Department at KMC Hospital provides multidisciplinary critical care service with representation from the Departments of Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Surgery, Neurology, and Pediatrics.

After a decade of experience in critical care, KMC has strengthened its specialists and supportive paramedical team sufficiently, so as to manage successfully, a 50 bed critical care department. The critical care department comprises of specialty areas like Coronary care, Stroke care, Intensive medical care, Surgical intensive care and Neonatal intensive care units.   There is a dedicated team of doctors involved in providing critical care services. These specialists, who have special training in the care of critically ill patients, work closely with other specialists like, surgeons of different specialties, cardiologists, nephrologists, gastroenterologists, paediatricians and other specialists in the hospital.

KMC is the only centre in the city for management of complicated cardiac problems. Facility for cardiac interventions, cardiac surgeries and circulatory support devices available 24 x 7 provided by a team of Cardiologists, Cardiac physicians and Surgeons. Only open heart centre for a hundred km radius. The staff pattern is well structured to provide the specialized care for the critically ill patients during the “Golden Hour”.

 ICUs are designed to prevent cross infection and ICU psychosis. Mobile ICU – ambulance with monitors, ventilators, defibrillators, oxygen, suction, life saving drugs are available through which emergency patients are shifted from their place to the hospital, care is given even on the way to the hospital.

The Critical care department of KMC, stands as an icon in the field of Critical Care Medicine. It is our endeavor to create a Critical Care Unit in Trichy, that would showcase the best in patient care, academics, medical ethics and state of art technology.
